From crunching numbers to streamlining global data center funding, Kelsey thrives in the fast-paced world of Project Controls. A problem-solver at heart, she turned her love for Lego into a career in civil engineering. Outside work, she’s lacing up for her first marathon - proving that with dedication and drive, no challenge is too big!

I am a Project Controls Specialist, focused primarily on data center cost management across global markets. As part of the Capital Planning team, I help manage the review and funding processes for data centers worldwide. My role involves tracking and reporting project data, ensuring accurate information is presented to stakeholders. I collaborate closely with these stakeholders daily, to facilitate timely project funding.
My journey into Project Controls began with a civil engineering degree. Fresh out of college, I landed a role with a general contractor, gaining hands-on experience as a Cost Engineer on an exciting rail project in Hawaii. After a couple of years of island life and on-the-ground learning, I was ready for a new challenge. That’s when I took on a cost engineering role at Linesight, stepping into the world of consulting. It was a whole new experience, but I’ve grown to truly love it - the fast pace, the problem-solving, and the chance to make a real impact. Every project brings something new, and that keeps it exciting!
I always knew I wanted to pursue engineering, but it wasn’t until my second year of college that I committed to civil engineering. My childhood love for Lego sparked an early fascination with construction and design - those building blocks were my first lessons in problem-solving. What began as play has grown into a career where I tackle complex structural challenges and turn them into strategic solutions. My curiosity about how things are built continues to fuel my professional journey.
What I enjoy most about my role is the opportunity to connect with so many different people in the industry. Even though I work remotely, I collaborate with a wide network of people daily and have built strong relationships along the way. I also love the organisational side of Project Controls - keeping things in order, ensuring teams have the information they need, and being the go-to person for all things Capital Planning over the past few years. Being that trusted point of contact is something I take great pride in.
My proudest moment at Linesight was helping to create and launch the Capital Planning deck that transformed our team's internal process into a clear, strategic communication tool. While our processes had been well-established for years, they had not been formally documented in an SOP format. Last year, I played a key role in developing a comprehensive deck that outlined every aspect of what our team does. Sharing it with stakeholders was a huge win - it not only showcased our team's work but also increased visibility and understanding among our clients.
Fun fact - my twin sister, Kelley Ieong, also works at Linesight! We’ve done almost everything together - growing up, going to college, and even studying civil engineering side by side. After graduation, we took different career paths - she went into transmission line engineering, and I pursued construction, eventually moving to Hawaii while she landed in California. But things came full circle when I referred her to Linesight two years ago, and now she’s loving it here too. Turns out, 'bringing family to work' isn't just a metaphor for us!
My advice would be to keep an open mind. I never imagined I’d end up in this field - it’s so different from what I thought I’d be doing back in college, but I really enjoy it. For me, what really matters is taking initiative, having the ability to learn, and always giving your best effort. That’s the key to success.
Right now, I’m training for my first marathon, which is coming up in June. I’ve done a half marathon before, but this is a whole new challenge. The process has really shown me how similar marathon training is to work - it takes dedication, willpower and consistency. Once you set your mind to something, the sky’s the limit!
