The wet evening didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of our teams, who jogged over to the Park for a warm up, ensuring all were limber and ready for the off. A final warm-up was conducted before the race, and some final instructions were called out to answer any last minute concerns of the runners. We made our way to the start line, looking the part in our SCSI branded t-shirts!
Before we knew it the gun had sounded and we were off on 4 laps of the park, which included both fast tarmac straights and some technical cross country sections. The pace was fast from the start, and the end of the first lap separated the field. However, it was difficult to tell who was travelling well due to the weaving nature of the course. The stunning setting of the park and the loud encouragement from the assembled crowd was enough to keep the team focused during the remaining 3 laps. Thankfully, all of the starters made it home and across the finish line in one piece!
The tension at the finish line was immense in anticipation of the results, but the tired bodies had to decamp to the Horse Show House pub for the prize giving ceremony. After some much needed refreshments, the prize giving got underway, and it wasn’t long before the crowd erupted as Linesight’s Team 1 was announced as the winner in the team event! A great evening was had interacting with our peers from across the various disciplines of the society. Thanks to the SCSI for organizing a fantastic event and we look forward to defending the trophy next year.
