Linesight’s Work Experience Programme takes place in Dublin

Last week, Linesight welcomed 12 transition year students to our Dublin office, for our twice-yearly work experience programme. The course is headed up by our Learning and Development team, with modules run by multiple members of the Linesight team, to give a true reflection of both the industry and of what life at Linesight is like. The modules ranged from an introduction to software and technologies that we use on a daily basis, such as CostX and BIM, through to the various specialist areas that we work across as a business,
such as value engineering, programming, risk, procurement and M&E.

With modules dedicated to a ‘Day in the life of a Quantity Surveyor’ and a ‘Day in the life of the Project Manager’ (which included some fun, hands-on activities of constructing building models using spaghetti and marshmallows!), the students also had the opportunity to visit one of our live project sites at Shelbourne Road. In addition, each student is assigned a buddy at the beginning of the week as a personal contact to guide them through the week, spending one-to-one time with this buddy each day to ask any questions that they may have.

To wrap up the week, Associate Director, Kim Hegarty brought the students through a feedback session, before a close-out gathering whereby the students had the opportunity to network with their Linesight presenters and buddies. As a business that is committed to attracting talent to the industry and promoting a career in construction consultancy from second level onwards, we were delighted to host these students and receive such positive feedback about their experience throughout the week. The future certainly looks bright with the next generation of professionals coming through!

We look forward to welcoming the next group of students in February 2020, with all programme spaces already filled. If you are interested in the Linesight Work Experience Programme for November 2020 or February 2021, please contact Jenny Robinson
