Delivering a renewable-powered data centre for Green Mountain in Germany

Linesight is supporting the delivery of an 18 MW data center on KMW’s 54 MW energy campus in Mainz, Germany, providing project management, cost management, and contract administration services.

Developed through a joint venture between Green Mountain and KMW, the facility is one of three data centers planned for the campus, with a combined capacity of 54 MW. The development will help meet growing demand for secure, resilient data center infrastructure.

The project must balance operational requirements, sustainability objectives, and commercial performance while maintaining schedule and budget certainty throughout construction. Its operating strategy incorporates renewable electricity sourcing, waste heat recovery, and water-efficient cooling measures.

The facility is planned to source its operational electricity from renewable energy generated through KMW’s wind and solar portfolio and supplied through Green Mountain's renewable energy infrastructure. Waste heat from the data center will be recovered for use in Mainz’s district heating network, while cooling water sourced from the Rhine River will support efficient operations.

Designed with a long-term focus on renewable electricity, heat recovery, and operational efficiency, the development combines resilient digital infrastructure with an integrated approach to energy management. It demonstrates how future data center campuses can support digital growth while making more effective use of renewable electricity and waste heat recovery infrastructure.
